Overview
FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) is used extensively as a construction material for industrial equipment and piping applications. However, owners, engineering and construction companies generally have inadequate expertise in FRP technology. To assist owners, architectural/ engineering firms and contractors better manage FRP equipment and piping, FSE can provide technical seminars.
When To Use These Services
When using outside consulting services is not convenient, owners may opt to upgrade their in-house FRP inspection management capabilities through FSE's technical seminars. In conjunction with a customer's existing or developing Preventive Maintenance Program, FSE can provide seminars that will address basic FRP equipment and piping systems inspection and repair techniques.
Services Provided
Since 1976, FSE has served as the owner's advocate for quality design and inspection of FRP equipment and piping systems. In this effort, FSE has partnered with large international corporations to help them manage the use of FRP within their plants. FSE has developed several distinct technical seminars to provide expert counsel to FRP managers. These include:
- Field Joining. FSE has established procedures for training workers for field joining and installation of FRP products. These procedures include fiberglass joining techniques.
- Engineering Basics. Customized for specific areas of interest, instruction covers engineering issues such as the basics of material selection, procurement strategies, codes, methods of analysis, bidding submittal reviews and FRP shop qualification.
- Preventative Maintenance Inspection. Established seminars cover inspection of existing equipment, process safety management (PSM) requirements and procedures, visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, "on-line" process equipment inspection (infrared thermography, X-ray, etc.), classification of defects and basic FRP repairs. When appropriate, seminar participants are given training in the field to provide "hands-on" practical skills.
